FIR Filed Against Sunny Deol and ‘Jaat’ Film Team for Allegedly Hurting Religious Sentiments

In a recent controversy surrounding the Bollywood film *Jaat*, an FIR has been lodged against veteran actor Sunny Deol and the film’s production team for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. The complaint has sparked debate over creative expression and religious sensitivity in Indian cinema.

FIR Filed Against Sunny Deol and ‘Jaat’ Film Team for Allegedly Hurting Religious Sentiments

The FIR was filed in Jalandhar, Punjab, by a resident of Foldiwal village under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Along with Sunny Deol, others named in the complaint include actor Randeep Hooda, actor Vineet Kumar Singh, director Gopichand Malineni, and producer Naveen.

The controversy stems from a specific scene in the film where Randeep Hooda’s character is shown standing beneath a crucifix inside a church while members of the congregation are seen praying. This depiction was deemed offensive by some members of the Christian community, who alleged that it portrayed hooliganism and intimidation within a sacred setting.

In response to the backlash, the filmmakers promptly issued a public apology and removed the controversial scene from the movie. In a statement, they said, “We deeply regret it and have taken quick action by deleting the scene from the film. We sincerely apologize to everyone whose beliefs have been hurt.”

Despite the controversy, *Jaat* continues to perform strongly at the box office. Reports indicate that the film earned approximately ₹61 crore in its first week, reflecting its popularity among audiences.

This incident adds to the ongoing conversation in the film industry about balancing artistic freedom with cultural and religious sensitivity. It remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will unfold in the coming weeks.
